Masherbrum 7,821m

Masherbrum 7,821m

Masherbrum, the 22nd highest peak in the world and the 11th tallest in Pakistan, has an elevation of approximately 2450 meters. It is located in the Hushe district of Ghanche Baltistan, an area renowned for hosting many of the tallest peaks in the Karakoram range. Standing at 7821 meters, Masherbrum is the highest peak of the Masherbrum range, a sub-range of the Karakoram, which also includes Chogolisa (7665m) and K6 (7281m) situated on the region’s southern crest.

First observed by Thomas Montgomerie in 1856, who referred to it as K1, Masherbrum is no longer commonly known by that designation. The massif of Masherbrum comprises two main summits: the North summit, or main summit, at 7821 meters, and the South West peak at 7806 meters. Both summits have been climbed, with the central peak first ascended by Willi Unsoeld and George Bell during an American expedition in 1960 via the southwest route.
