Fairy Meadows Trek & Hunza Tour

Fairy Meadows Trek & Hunza Tour

Fairy Meadows, a verdant plateau nestled at the base of Nanga Parbat on the western fringes of the Himalayan Range, is steeped in legend. Locals believe it to be the abode of fairies, a belief perpetuated by Western tourists who bestowed the name “Fairy Meadows” upon it. This enchanting plateau offers breathtaking vistas of Nanga Parbat (8,125 m), Pakistan’s highest peak in the Himalayas and the 9th highest in the world. The name “Nanga Parbat,” derived from Persian, translates to “Naked Mountain,” while the locals refer to it as “Diamer,” meaning “Monarch of the Gods.” It’s also notorious among mountaineers as the “Killer Mountain,” claiming over 40 lives of climbers attempting to conquer its treacherous slopes.

To reach Fairy Meadows, one embarks on a 540 km journey via the Karakoram Highway from Islamabad to Raikot Bridge (1,400 m), where local jeeps transport travelers to Tatto village. The drive from Raikot Bridge to Tatto (2,900 m) is exhilarating, offering several scenic photo opportunities, including a stunning view of the Karakoram Highway and the Indus River from sharp bends in the road. Spending the night at the fixed camping site or traditional wooden huts provides a memorable experience, with unparalleled views of Nanga Parbat’s imposing North Face.

The journey to Hunza Valley is a paradise for lovers of natural beauty, offering a blend of Hunza culture and thrilling adventures. This remote mountain kingdom gained prominence in the 1970s with the completion of the Karakoram Highway, a remarkable feat that transformed the ancient Silk Route from Pakistan to China.
